Pathology Services

Introduction

Pathology services are provided from the main laboratory at Wexham Park Hospital with a smaller transport hub at Heatherwood Hospital.

Disciplines located at the Wexham Park site include Blood Sciences (Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood Transfusion), Microbiology, Immunology, Cellular Pathology (Histology and Cytology) and Mortuary.

 

Phlebotomy (blood sampling) Opening times

The Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Phlebotomy (blood sampling) Department provides services at the following locations:

  • Wexham Park Hospital  
  • Heatherwood Hospital
  • St Mark’s Hospital
  • King Edward VII Hospital 
Clinics operate a number system and patients should take a number on arrival.
 
Please ensure that you bring along the blood test request form that was given to you by your doctor.

Although the department closes at 5.00pm we can only guarantee seeing patients arriving in the department by 4.30pm or before and who have been issued with a number at reception.
Patients arriving after 4.30pm are advised that although they may choose to wait , we are unable to guarantee they will be seen and may be asked to return another day.

An appointment only phlebotomy service is provided at Herschel Medical Centre.  To book an appointment please call the pathology reception on 01753 633405 or 01753 633412.  To guarantee being seen patients are asked to please keep to their appointment time.
The department is closed between 10.30am to 10.45am and 1.00pm to 1.30pm Monday to Friday.
 

 

Clinical Staff

15 consultant pathologists provide extensive clinical and interpretive advice. More than 75 biomedical scientists, plus additional support staff, provide analytical, interpretive and administration to ensure the provision of a quality service.

Type of Service

Services are provided internally to the Trust, local GPs and east Berkshire community hospitals.
