Wexham Park Hospital is opening its doors on Wednesday 30 May to take Foundation Trust Members on an afternoon tour of its facilities.
The tour will showcase the hospital’s state-of-the-art £3.7 million Sterile Services Department – a new addition to the hospital in 2009.
The department is used for decontamination and sterilisation of all reusable theatre and departmental surgical instruments and utilises computerised scanning equipment to bar code and track all equipment.
It is fully equipped with modern plant and machinery to meet the highest standard of registration, including clean steam generators. The washroom has ‘pass through’ washer disinfectors, an ultrasonic disinfector for da Vinci Robotic instruments and an automatic cart washer.
The department is arranged to promote workflow from contaminated returns of instruments and equipment, through decontamination and disinfection into a dedicated clean room with strictly controlled entry and exit of staff and materials via interlocked gowning rooms and hatches.
The tour will also allow Members to visit the lowest and highest points of the site as we delve deep underneath the hospital to the plant room to see how the hospital operates ‘behind the scenes’. Next, Members will scale the hospital’s tower block to see the spectacular view from the roof of the surrounding area where the Estates team will be on hand to talk us through how the site has developed and changed over the years.
The tour will take place on Wednesday 30 May at 2pm at Wexham Park Hospital and will last approximately 90 minutes.
If you would like to become a Member and join the tour or already are a Member and would like to join, please contact Membership Officer, Lesley O’Loughlin on 01753 633566.
