Royal Household Cricket Club raises funds for Parapet Breast Unit

The Parapet Breast Unit, part of Heatherwood and Wexham Park Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, based at King Edward VII Hospital in Windsor recently received a donation of £5000 from members of the Royal Household Cricket Club.

The money was raised through a charity cricket match, sponsored by Samsung, between the ladies and gentlemen’s staff teams. It was held within the grounds of Windsor Castle in the presence of Her Majesty the Queen and HRH Prince Philip.

Gary Jones, of the Royal Household Cricket Club said, “The Royal Household chose the Parapet because many of the Lady Wardens and other members of the Windsor Castle community have benefited from the wonderful work done at the Parapet. At the end of last year we heard devastating news that one of our lady cricketers had been diagnosed with breast cancer. I proposed that we held a charity cricket match in aid of a local charity and after speaking to Her Majesty it was agreed that we would raise funds for the Parapet. Her Majesty the Queen agreed to attend a charity cricket match between the ladies and gentlemen of Windsor Castle. The evening was a great success thanks to the hard work of the committee of the Royal Household Cricket Club and friends from Samsung with which we would not been able to raise the £5000.”

James Lane - Senior Manager Samsung Electronics said, “Samsung was delighted to be asked by the Royal Household Cricket Club to sponsor such a prestigious event and it was a privilege to meet Her Majesty the Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. We hope £5000 made on the evening will continue to support the wonderful work the Parapet Breast Unit performs for all their patients.”

A small number of staff from the unit joined 300 other guests to watch the closely fought and exciting match, narrowly won by the gentlemen’s team.

Miss Dominica Predolac, Oncoplastic Breast Surgeon for the Trust, who attended the event said, “The whole of the Parapet team would like to thank the ladies and gentlemen of the Royal Household Cricket Club and Samsung for their support. The staff who attended enjoyed a wonderful evening and were delighted to meet Her Majesty the Queen and HRH Prince Philip”.
