London 2012 Olympics

Wexham Park Hospital is proud to be an official London 2012 Games receiving hospital for athletes competing at Eton Dorney - the venue for Rowing, Paralympic Rowing and Canoe Sprint events. During the Games, it will be business as usual at the Trust and our patients can be assured that quality of care will not be compromised.

When are the London 2012 Games?

The Olympic Games takes place between 27 July to 12 August 2012 and the Paralympic Games from 29 August to 9 September 2012 at a range of venues, mostly in the new Olympic Park but with other venues in Earls Court, Wembley, Manchester, Coventry, Westminster, Wimbledon and Weymouth.

  • 21 July - Olympic Torch relay arrives in London
  • 25 July - Olympic football starts
  • 27 July - Opening ceremony
  • 28 July - 4 August - Rowing at Dorney Lake starts
  • 6 August – 11 August - Olympic Canoe & Kayak at Dorney Lake
  • 12 August - Closing ceremony
  • 29 August - Paralympics opening ceremony
  • 31 August – 2 September - Paralympic Rowing at Dorney Lake
  • 9 September - Paralympics closing ceremony

Things you should know...

  • Eton Dorney is hosting Olympic Rowing and Canoe Sprint events from 28 July to 11 August and the Paralympic Rowing competition from 31 August - 2 September.
  • Check the Olympic competition schedule and Paralympic competition schedule at Eton Dorney for more information.
  • If you are a resident or local business in the area, you can get further information every Friday 12-4pm, at the London 2012 information centre, at the Bishop Centre, Bath Road, Taplow.
  • There will also be other events leading up to the Games that may cause travel disruption – the Olympic Torch Relay which will be coming through east Berkshire on 10th July, and the normal disruption caused by Ascot week, which should also be taken into consideration whilst trying to reach the hospital.

Travel information

There will be some travel restrictions during the Olympic and Paralympic events at Eton/Dorney, and there are likely to be delays, especially during the peak arrival and departure times of 7am - 9am and 12 noon – 3pm.
