Outpatient Services - Your Appointment

On the Day of Your Appointment

What to Bring

To assist in the smooth running of your appointment we ask that you bring the following with you:

  • Your appointment letter
  • List of current medication
  • Questions to ask the Clinician
  • Money for the car park

Car Parking

Pay and display parking meters are clearly marked. Please bring some change for these as staff in the shop/cafeteria are unable to provide change for you.

There are disabled parking bays close to the outpatient clinics.

Patients may be taken to and collected from the main entrance but cars cannot wait in areas where there are double yellow lines or ‘No Parking’ signs.

For more information about getting to your hospital appointment, including public transport options, please go to Find Us. Here you'll find up to date information on the transport available to all of our centres.

Arriving for Your Clinic Appointment

If you are unsure of where you need to be please ask the receptionist for directions.
To view a map of each site please click visit our Find Us section.

Please go to the Reception Desk at the clinic on your letter and give your name and appointment letter to the receptionist. The receptionist will ask to check your personal details and then direct you to the clinic.

If you have a disability that may affect your visit (for example hard of hearing) please let the receptionist know.

Please assist us in running our clinics to time by arriving for your appointment on time. Arriving early does not mean that we will see you ahead of other patients.

Waiting Times

We aim to see all patients within 30 minutes of your scheduled appointment time.

Occasionally from time to time we experience delays with our outpatient clinics. These delays are usually due to a medical emergency or a patient that requires further time with the consultant but your clinic staff will tell you why the delay has occurred and keep you up to date with timings as the clinic progresses.

You may be required to have some basic diagnostic tests during your visit (i.e. x-ray or blood test). This may mean you have to spend longer at the clinic. Unfortunately we do suffer delays from time to time so please allow two hours for your appointment.

If you are unable to have the tests performed on the same day please let the nurse in charge of your clinic know and a new time will be arranged for you.

Who Will I See in the Clinic?

Most clinics operate with a team of doctors, and your appointment will be with one of the team, not necessarily with the consultant. This means that you may not always see the same doctor. As some members of the team change every six months you are unlikely to see the same person over a long period of time. Continuity is preserved through your files any by consultations between the various doctors.

Nursing Staff

Nursing staff are allocated to each clinic and their names will appear on the board alongside the name of the doctors in clinic. If you have any questions or concerns about your visit the nursing staff will be pleased to help you.

Refreshments

Patient refreshment areas are located close to outpatient departments in each hospital (excluding Bracknell Outpatient Centre). For directions please see the maps located near the clinic or ask reception staff.
